Watch and Learn with Preschool Prep

You’ve seen their ad in magazines and on TV for years, but do the Preschool Prep video’s actually work?  With over 25 National Awards received and countless testimonials on their website, I decided to take the plunge and find out for myself.  Since my three year old already knew her letters, numbers and shapes, I decided to order the Meet the Sight Words series.  After reading some reviews on how “boring” and monotonous these video’s were I was a little hesitant to press play, but after doing so I was impressed at the simple, yet engaging way the series taught sight words.  I admit they are not as exciting as the LeapFrog series, but my kids love them just the same.  After two viewings my two and three year old were both repeating the words on the screen before it was read to them.  As a former public school teacher, I was also impressed the company was very forthright in acknowledging that their videos do not teach a child to read, but rather teaches them sight recognition, an important precursor to reading.   A total of seven DVD’s are offered in the series: Meet the Numbers, Shapes, Letters, Colors, and Meet the Sight Words 1, 2 and 3.  The company also have several supplemental materials, such as coloring books and flash cards available through their website.

Bottom Line:  Make the most out of your preschooler’s limited TV time with the Preschool Prep series.

To Purchase: Individual DVD’s start at $11.99.  Several different combo packs are available from Amazon by clicking here.

My favorite toy as a child was my “Baby Tenderlove”. One year for Christmas my Mom made it a bunch of baby doll clothes for it.
